THE ONE CAMPAIGN
November 14th, 2007The One Campaign consists of over 2 million Americans that believe if we all work together as one; we can make a difference in fighting global AIDS and put an end to poverty.
Raising public awareness is the main goal in fighting poverty across the world. There are starving people and disease that can be treated in developing countries. Expanding awareness of the problems is the first step for The One Campaign. They also believe that information needs to be published about the impact made on poverty, hunger, and disease with overseas development assistance and unfair international trade.
The One Campaign is designed to put pressure on the government and ask for federal funding to be increased to prevent and treat disease. Debt relief needs to be provided to poor countries and fair trade agreements must be made. The world’s poorest countries could be completely turned around by simply assisting them with their basic needs of clean water, education, health, and healthy food.
The second leading cause for The One Campaign is treatment and assistance with AIDS. AIDS has taken over 25 million lives. In poor countries, most people will die from the onset of AIDS or because they contracted tuberculosis with AIDS. Malaria is another disease that is left untreatable in poverty-stricken countries and with just a little help to these people medically, we can save them and add years to their lives. People are dying and not being able to see their children grow. Many children contract the diseases and die at young ages also without the opportunity for proper medical care.
The One Campaign believes that the government needs to focus on the important matters in life and that is poverty, starvation, and health. We have an opportunity to save the lives of millions of people and give those years and a quality of life that everyone deserves. The One Campaign is fighting for the government to step up and provide assistance to these people. Awareness is the beginning to making positive changes around the world. There is enough food and money to feed and take care of everyone.
